Course Information
Description Introduction to personal computer operating systems including installation, configuration, file management, memory and storage management, control of peripheral devices, and use of utilities.
Prerequisites None
Learning Outcomes Alpha. Demonstrates comprehension of content-area reading material (PSLO Alpha) measured by pretest/post-test.

1. Students will develop understanding of computer operating systems (PSLO 1) measured by embedded test questions.

2. Students will Install and configure computer operating system (PSLO 2) measured by projects/labs.

3. Students will learn control of peripheral devices and use of utilities (PSLO 2) measured by projects/labs.

4. Students will learn file, storage and memory management related to computer operating systems (PSLO 3) measured by projects.

5. Students will learn the value of ethics and security when managing computer operating systems (PSLO 4) measured by embedded test questions

Instructor Policies Since there are no office hours I can be contacted by email. My email address is balloukw@lamarpa.edu.

Students must use appropriate e-mail etiquette when corresponding with instructor; for example, complete sentences and a full subject line with your name/course name.

Reliable Internet access is required for all online courses.

Computer failure and lack of internet access are not acceptable excuses for missed assignments, projects, quizzes, or exams. DO NOT wait until the last minute to complete class work or exams.

There will be four major exams and a final exam. You MUST take the final exam. Failure to take the final will result in failure for the course.
Attendance Policy * This instructor monitors course activity weekly. Students are required to be active in the course. Students not active within the course will receive an academic penalty. Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success.

* Class participation is required. It is important to be active within the course.

* Students are expected to check e-mail and announcements a minimum of three times per week.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
